A little about me

People are more than
their symptoms.

I'm Dashon McNelley, LPC, a Licensed Professional Counselor and the founder of NeuroAxis Counseling LLC.

I entered the counseling profession because I believe people are more than their symptoms, diagnoses, mistakes, or the difficult circumstances they've experienced. Every person has a story, and I believe understanding that story is an important part of meaningful therapeutic work.

I earned my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Psychology from Troy University and have been working in the mental health field since 2021. Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, and adults from many different backgrounds and with a wide variety of concerns.

My approach to counseling

Tailored to the person
in the room.

I don't believe there is a single approach that works for everyone. Therapy should be tailored to the person sitting across from me.

My work draws from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychoeducation, coping-skills development, grounding and mindfulness strategies, emotional-regulation techniques, and other individualized interventions. With children and adolescents, I may incorporate play, creative activities, behavioral strategies, and parent coaching depending on their developmental needs and goals.

“For me, therapy is a collaborative process. I'm not there to simply tell you what to do. Instead, I want to help you understand what's happening, identify patterns that may be getting in the way, and develop tools that actually make sense for your life.”Dashon McNelley, LPC

Who I work with

Children, teens,
and adults.

Every age brings its own challenges, and care is shaped around what each person needs.

♡

Children & families

Children don't always have the words to explain what they're feeling. Sometimes their feelings show up as anger, defiance, withdrawal, anxiety, changes at school, or behaviors that leave parents wondering, “What is going on?”

I work to look beyond the behavior and understand what may be underneath it. When appropriate, I also work closely with parents and caregivers to help them understand their child's needs and develop strategies they can use at home. My goal is not simply to change a child's behavior, but to help children develop the emotional awareness, coping skills, communication skills, and confidence they need.

◇

Adolescents & adults

Anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, family conflict, work stress, major life changes, and simply feeling overwhelmed can make it difficult to know where to begin.

Sometimes people come to therapy because something specific has happened. Other times, they simply know that something doesn't feel right anymore. Either way, you don't need to have the perfect explanation for why you're struggling before you reach out. Together, we can slow things down, make sense of what you're experiencing, and identify practical steps toward feeling more grounded and in control.

✦

What you can expect

I want clients to feel comfortable being honest with me, even when the things they're sharing are difficult, messy, or uncomfortable.

You can expect me to listen without judgment, ask questions, challenge you when appropriate, celebrate your progress, and help you develop practical strategies you can use outside of the therapy room. Therapy doesn't have to be cold or overly clinical. You are a person, not a diagnosis. There should be room for humor, honesty, difficult conversations, small victories, and the occasional “Okay, let's figure this out.”

Why NeuroAxis?

The whole person,
not a diagnosis.

The name NeuroAxis reflects the connection between the mind, brain, emotions, behaviors, and the experiences that shape us. Understanding how these pieces interact can help us better understand ourselves.

Whether you're a parent trying to understand your child's behavior, a teenager trying to navigate everything happening around you, or an adult who feels stuck and isn't sure what comes next, you don't have to figure it all out alone.

My hope is that NeuroAxis Counseling can be a place where you feel safe enough to be honest, supported enough to grow, and empowered enough to take your next step. I'm glad you're here, and I would be honored to be part of your journey.
